When PBS and WGBH were targeted for defunding, I was inspired seeing illustrations of my favorite childhood characters protesting and fighting to keep their channel alive and funded. I immediately thought this play on Between the Lions and expected to see it or something similar, but I never did. I am a blue dot in a certain bleach blonde, badly-built, butch body's district and the nearest No Kings Day protest wasn't accessible for me, so I spent the day working on this gouache painting instead.

NO Ai ALLOWED

PROCRESS

Hand-drawn and painted in watercolor, gouache, acrylic, and markers.

As a Monster High doll collector, I was way too excited to see this as a trend. I obviously had to make the Barbie puns and have John and I a two-pack to complete our animal family. I had fun and wanted to create one for my sister and her boyfriend.

2025 GA SPRING

John and I are both artists and love watching artists on YouTube. One of our favorites is James Gurney. Every time we watch him paint, John and I look at each other and say, 'Let's do some plein air painting,' but we never do. As winter was ending, the trees surrounding my mom's house were in full bloom, and I just felt that I had to paint them. I set up my easel and dusted off my oil paints and did just that. I also took lots of photos to return to that moment during the bloom and that time of day to go back and work more on it, but as of right now (6/17/2025) that's where it currently stands.

ADAM & RILEY'S ENGAGEMENT

I was commissioned to watercolor paint the moment Adam and Riley got engaged as a gift to the grooms.

I was excited but a little scared about painting waterfalls. I watched hours of different YouTube videos of other watercolor artists tackling the subject. I painted one or two mini-waterfalls to get the look I wanted and then I jumped in. I am still really impressed with my restraint of not muddying up the waterfall area.

PROCESS

I was provided the picture on the left as well as other photos of the men for their likenesses.

I sent the two thumbnails to the commissioner asking if they would like a fish eye look with a focus on the space as well as them, or the straight on view with the landmarks slightly condensed to fit. The latter was preferred with the idea that their clasped hands would be in the center, highlighted by the spiral of the iron fencing.

AMY & DEVIN COMISSION

PROCESS

I was commissioned to capture Amy and Devin's engagement as a watercolor portrait.

These were the images I was provided to choose from or combine for the piece.

BIRTHDAY CARD

I learned that a friend of mine at an old job had a birthday at the end of the week, and I wanted to make them something special. They love bees, and I learned that their father was a beekeeper; I knew the pun but wanted to create something with it. I think I whipped this out in a few hours, and I was really proud of my bee wings and hot glue honey.

WINTER CARD

PROCESS

Winter is my favorite time of year and holds a special spot in my heart. I wanted to try my hand at paper as a medium for this project because I love the dimensionality you can achieve with paper and foam spacers. I want to keep exploring paper and layering techniques for different effects.

IDIOMS & PHRASES SUPPORT MEETING

I love puns and word play and brought that love to life in this piece. Starting with the elephant in the room and working clockwise are:
the aforementioned elephant, the wise owl leading the session, followed by a black sheep, a bull with his china teacup and saucer, pearls before swine AND makeup on a pig, ending with the egg vs chicken debate. The entire piece is cut paper and the eyes moved with the aid of a pull tab.
